The GIGN (the French Gendarmerie’s elite counterterrorism and hostage rescue unit) was the first of its kind to be established worldwide. Virtually every European country drew inspiration from it. In 1994 they risked their lives to save passengers from a plane hijacked by the GIA (Armed Islamic Group), an Algerian fundamentalist group. In this documentary, several members of the GIGN divulge their personal stories. They answer questions about their commitment and their driving values. Also, the members of this special operations’ unit talk about their intimate relation to death and their understanding of concepts such as homeland, duty or self-sacrifice… The documentary depicts a gallery of characters far from the “trigger happy” cliché which sticks to them.
