The End of the Modern - Day Farmer

Synopsis

The film begins with a sequence filmed just months before the 2007 presidential election, at the Agricultural Fair. Nicolas Sarkozy the candidate, sweet talks the head of the almighty agricultural union. The election comes and goes and Sarkozy's tone quickly changes. The French president withdraws his unwavering support for the famous CAP - the controversial Common Agricultural Policy. For years France's European partners have denounced a policy that has provided generous subsidies to French farmers. This film is a mix of interviews and archives, taking a deep hard look into the powerful lobby of the agriculture industry, and its unsustainable welfare policy.
