The film takes viewers to the archipelago of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, where the village of Miquelon, home to 600 souls, is confronted with the imminent threat of being submerged due to global warming.
Located south of Newfoundland, the archipelago is exposed to increasingly extreme weather conditions as a result of climate change. Storms are becoming more frequent and violent, and rising sea levels threaten the very existence of the village, built on an isthmus less than 2 meters above the water.
The inhabitants, descendants of Basque sailors and Acadians, show a deeply rooted resilience, but relocating an entire village poses colossal challenges.
“Miquelon, an Island Facing Climate Change” is a documentary that bears witness to the courage and determination of residents who are envisioning a new future for their community.
