Saint Malachy, an obscure 12th-century Irish cleric, is said to have written a text known as the Prophecy of the Popes. Secretly kept in the library of Lyon, this manuscript has apparently predicted the succession of popes for the past 900 years with an eerily precise accuracy. Even more unsettling, the Vatican itself does not deny drawing inspiration from it during its conclaves.
