Madeleine Joye de Grandmaison – The Desire to Exist
At 85, Madeleine de Grandmaison leafs through the notebooks in which she has jotted down memories and personal reflections throughout her life. Her words tell the story of an inspiring journey: from a little girl born into a modest rural family in the north of colonial Martinique, to an activist alongside Aimé Césaire, and later a Member of the European Parliament committed to social justice, women’s rights, ecology and culture. “Looking back, perhaps behind my drive to work was the desire to exist.”
